Smarter Balanced assessment is an approach to student assessment that provides educators, students and parents with meaningful results and actionable data that helps students succeed.
New state standards are challenging students to understand subject matter more deeply, think more critically, and apply their learning to the real world. Smarter Balanced assessments provide more accurate and meaningful information to teachers about what students are actually learning. Teachers use this feedback to adjust their instruction and help students succeed in school and after.

While the goal is to improve instruction and help students succeed, participation in Smarter Balanced assessment is not mandatory. Adult students or parents of 11th grade students may opt-out.
