Counselor Biography - JP Newman
Mr. Newman
I am honored to serve Crater High School students as a School Counselor. The high school years can be incredibly challenging for students on many levels and I believe that the work we do as school counselors can be vital to student success. Although my role begins with emotional support, I am also a student advocate, support liaison, problem solver, listener, bridge, and ally, helping students navigate past obstacles and developing strategies that support their success in high school.
I have worked in the Central Point School District since 2006, first serving as an alternative education teacher at Crater, then a Teacher on Special Assignment supporting alternative programs. From 2009-2022, I worked at Hanby Middle School, first as a school counselor and later as an English Language Arts teacher. I returned to Crater in 2022, stepping back into school counseling. On almost a daily basis, I call on my past classroom experience when helping a student navigate test preparation, organization, grade challenges, and/or teacher communication.
In my life outside of work, I am married and have two sons. I have a deep love of skiing, rafting, biking, and spending time in the woods with my family.
